Hats off to KSPS busy scientists!

My 4th and 5th graders are studying about scientists, their work, skills and tools they need. Thus, they decided to become real scientists and perform different experiments. Every student brought an experiment with its needed tools to the class and performed it in front of his/her class mates. The photos show everything, enjoy them.

Having fun teaching, building and learning!

My 5th graders are learning about place value through billions. It was time for a funny hands-on activity with building blocks. Simply we wrote the numbers on the blocks. The ones goes on the smallest block, then work your way up to the 4 blocks (thousands),7 blocks (millions) and 10 blocks (billions). The blocks allowed my students to conclude that the biggest number must be at the bottom of the stack, building up to the smallest unit. We wrote a number in expanded form using the stacking method. “Playing” with blocks helped my student to physically see and experience place value. This is an important step before one can expect them to understand the concept on paper. Making learning concrete, helps students to understand a concept easier. It makes learning fun too!

Bon Appetite!

Grade 5 students had an interesting activity that allowed them to set their own meal in a specific budget. This activity involved students using their math computing skills and their science skills too!
Students were divided into groups. Each group had a specific diner menu and a specific amount of money. Students used this amount of money to form a meal that contains all food groups (students used knowledge about food pyramid acquired in the science classes).

Message in a Bottle

It’s time for interesting activities at KSPS.
I asked my fourth and fifth graders to write messages for themselves including their wishes and hopes for this scholastic year. Every student placed his/her message in a bottle to be opened during the last day of school to check if our wishes came true.

"CAN'T" fly away

As part of teaching children methods of character enhancement, grade five students wrote at least one thing they think they CAN'T do academically, things that they want to let go of.
The students wrote whatever they struggled with on papers that they folded into rockets and flew them up in the playground.
This activity taught students to overcome their fears in order to enhance their educational outcomes.

First Day at KSPS

As the school’s gate opened early this morning, our young clovers rushed to start a new scholastic year that will be full of success and great achievements. Students hurried to greet and welcome their teachers and classmates. I was elated and excited to welcome back my old students and meet new ones. It was a great way to welcome back our young clovers by taking photos that filled the walls of our school with laughter and joy.
